      AFAIK, you have to set this in the Registry.

      All the usual warnings about editing the Registry apply here!

      From the Start menu, select Run… and type RegEdit.
      Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice8.0ExcelSpell Checker
      If there is an entry named Speller, edit its value to 2057Normal (the number 2057 is the code for UK English; the code for US English is 1033). If there is no entry Speller, create one with this name and set its value to 2057Normal.

      Alternatively, you can create a text file with the following contents:

      REGEDIT4

      [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice8.0ExcelSpell Checker]
      "Speller"="2057Normal"

      Give it a name with extension .reg, for instance ExcelUK.reg. Opening this file will set the registry value described above
