• Linking to a Named Range in Excel

We have attached to a named range in an Excel spreadsheet but the data is not updatable.

    Is it possible?

I seem to recall that this may be a feature that MS had to remove after losing a pattent suit.

Is this the case or is there another answer?

I don’t know the history of this, but this is what it says in Help:

“When you link to an Excel worksheet or a named range, Access creates a new table that is linked to the source cells. Any changes you make to the source cells in Excel appear in the linked table. However, you cannot edit the contents of the corresponding table in Access. If you want to add, edit, or delete data, you must make the changes in the source file.”

Further to my previous post I found this post which has this:

Thanks John, Yes this was the result of MS losing a pattent suit.

We’ll import the Excel data into a table then export it back to Excel once we’ve had our wicked way with it.
