Dell Inspiron 1545 encountered a problem. I was doing weekly maintenance, disk defrag, CCleaner, Superantispyware and Malwarebytes all OK, but Emsisoft refused to open.

After several attempts, decided to uninstall and download a fresh copy. I restarted the laptop to allow removal of Emsisoft, as instructed, but it appears that was not the problem, because when opening it tries to restore the system, then diagnosis, finds nothing and tells me to use the original install disk.

I am worried what will happen if I use the original Vista install disk, as it is now running Window 8.1 I have a rescue disk for my 64 bit desktop, but don’t appears to have made one for the 32 bit laptop since upgrading to Win 8.1

Should I try the 64 bit disk, or is the machine a write off?

    Any guidance much appreciated.
