I have an Acer laptop with W10 Home.

I save backups to an ext. HD. via

I created a USB boot disk. It works great. Now:

    1. In the event of an issue, I boot via the USB stick. Macrium loads. I would then unplug the stick, plug in the ext. HD and restore. Correct?
    2. My main query: I also have a Dell laptop with W10 Pro., same B/U situation. Can I use the same USB stick to boot the Dell, or do I have to create a new USB stick via the Dell

      1. Yes, should be fine. But, you have more than one USB port so you can have both connected at boot.

      2. The Dell should boot from the same USB. Plug in the USB and HDD and test. You should be able to select the backup image and the internal disk.

p.s. If you plug the USB in while Windows is running you can select it as the boot device when you shutdown.
Hold Shift down and click Restart. You will get a menu allowing you to select to boot from USB.

      cheers, Paul

If you have decided to use the same USB boot device for two different systems, just make sure that you test it BEFORE you need it.

Also, Macrium Reflect offers you the option to create a boot menu.  This is part of the Create Rescue Media menu.

Thanks Paul. Yes, I would boot from the flash drive.

I’ve also created a boot sector on my PC. When I start it, I get the choice of W10 or Reflect.

Saved my bacon after a W update that went badly.

I have been creating Macrium Reflect and Image for Windows DVD boots as well as USB boots.  Rarely does the USB boot stick not boot.  When it does not boot, thankfully, my DVD boot almost always works.  For the last 2-3 years, I have kept both the recent DVD boot and the previous DVD boot.  And, made two twin USB boots.  I have the laptops’ boots and backup HDDs in respective plastic ziplocks in the tiny geek safe when not in use.
