After multiple EU-based users complained about not being able to access Instagram’s Threads app through VPN, Meta confirmed that it is blocking such efforts.

The company launched Threads last week, but given privacy concerns around the app, it is not available in the EU. The company said in a statement that it has applied further measures to stop users from accessing the new social app.

“Threads is not currently available in most countries in Europe and we’ve taken additional steps to prevent people based there from accessing it at this time. Europe continues to be an incredibly important market for Meta and we hope to make Threads available here in the future,” it said in a statement provided to TechCrunch…

Meta Threads engagement has dropped off since red-hot debut, tracking firms say

What comes up must come down — at least in the case of user engagement on Threads, Meta’s new Twitter competitor…

Sensor Tower data suggests a significant pullback in user engagement since Threads’ launch: On Tuesday and Wednesday, the platform’s number of daily active users were down about 20% from Saturday, and the time spent for user was down 50%, from 20 minutes to 10 minutes…

      Let’s get back on topic.

So here’s my 2 cents.  This is true for reddit as well.  The value of a site is not just the site, it’s the people that participate.  Respectful discourse. Informed folks you want to stick around and pay attention to.

First fail of threads is the domain name.  Thread.com is a different company.  Threads.net is the home for Meta’s project. That’s a fail in the domain name.

Secondly for me the people I follow on instragram are more photos and travel based. NOT information. So the people that got automatically sucked over from instragram weren’t like the tech folks (security folks) I follow on other social media sites.

But ultimately the compelling content comes from those that visit.

Yes, I have accounts at most of those sites for many years (not threads). I don’t post and don’t care to. Did follow many on twatter but since the big shakeup will not sign in and will get my news elsewhere. I don’t trust any of them and esp Zuck’s stuff. Just my opinion.

SZuck Fake! More socialpedia, just what the world needs, another waste of time, space, energy and mental effort. Never mind, advertising will be the most prominent visitor. I’ll bet most who have signed up don’t even bother ever posting, just using it to snoop on their insecurity with FUD.
      Enjoy the paranoia!
