I have played World of Solitaire for years:

      https://worldofsolitaire.com/

He has hundreds of games and variations. This is a labor of love all beautifully done. I highly recommend it. And best of all the games are absolutely free.

He also lets you “Hide Ads”. (I believe you need to register to hide ads, but I have been registered on this site for years.) This also registers your high scores and all game playing data. I have played over 8,000 games over the years!

You can still get all the original Win7 games for Win 10 from Winaero.com. I couldn’t attach any of their files, they are too big or not allowed. I unwind with Spider Solitaire every day!

When you unzip the file and run the .exe, the games are installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.

This was a great piece, Brian, (though I’m late). Particularly I want to highlight the section about changing the default browswer – no it won’t let you – but you asked me to install the extension – blocked, etc.

I ran into this a couple months ago, and figured it was me, which is what Microsoft makes you believe very often. So thanks for confirming.

      Moreover, game on…
