Why does Microsoft Office 2007 keep configuring when I open one of the utilities such as Word? I have seen many solutions to fix this annoying behaviour, but because of the diverse opinions I haven’t tried any of them! I have not yet seen an answer to the question “Why?” is it doing this. Any suggestions please? I am running Windows 10 on a PC.

PS: Yes I would be interested in a solution also.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody MVPDecember 15, 2016 at 7:30 am #1586875If you have installed the Windows 10 Anniversary update, Office 2007 is no longer certified compatible with Windows 10. It may in fact work, but it isn’t guaranteed to work.
If you have not installed the Anniversary update, then Office 2007 IS certified to be compatible with Windows 10.
Here is some information which may be helpful.
Can you be more specific as to exactly what is happening? Also, give a specific example.

AskWoody MVPDecember 15, 2016 at 9:06 pm #1586935I’ve had this before. A ‘Repair’ may fix it as this re-does the registry settings.
-
[*]Right-click on Start and select Control Panel from the context menu.
[*]Click on Programs and Features.
[*]Click on the entry for Microsoft Office 2007 once to select it then select Change on the menu bar then select Repair.
[*]Re-boot your PC and try opening an Office document again. If this doesn’t fix it then do the following:
-
[*]Copy/paste the following into Notepad.
Code:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0WordOptions] “NoReReg”=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0ExcelOptions] “NoReReg”=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0PowerPointOptions] “NoReReg”=dword:00000001
[*]Save the file as something like ‘Stop_Office_2007_Re-registering.reg’.
[*]Double-click on the newly-created .REG file then click on the Yes button in the User Account Control dialog which appears.
[*]Click on the Yes button on the Registry Editor dialog which appears.
[*]Click on the OK button to dismiss the Registry Editor confirmation dialog which appears.
[*]Re-boot your PC and try opening an Office document again.Hope this helps… let us know how you get on.
