Looks like the new Outlook for Windows app might be automatically installed for you after updating to 22631.2338. I didn’t go and download it myself, yet here it is.”

Another free bonus. Microsoft is so generous.

Have you found others sources that confirm that the new Outlook for Windows app is being automatically installed after updating to 22631.2338?

As a former columnist, at an internationally recognized new organization, I know that reliable reporting requires multiple sources before posting an article.

We should hold posts on the AskWoody site to the same standard – not just create click bate.

        Brandon works for Microsoft.

Note as well that insider versions are NOTORIOUSLY sausage and trying out things.  Just because some get stuff dribbled to them doesn’t necessarily mean it will be in the final release.

Twitter is often not reliable reporting.  It’s one person saying “hey, I saw” and as Kathy says, needs verification.

I found this program (Outlook, new) sneaked onto my desktop W10 Pro 22H2 this morning despite the fact that updates are currently on hold. I use Windows Mail as an email client but have never had MO 365 installed on this machine; I am in fact still running MO 2010 and do not use that version of Outlook, although I do have a hotmail (outlook) email account in use. I have the “Try the new Outlook” toggle on my Windows Mail screen but have been careful never to touch it. What would happen if I uninstall today’s unwanted version of Outlook? Will I lose Windows Mail altogether? The sign-in screen for the new program openened automatically when I started my PC this morning and I just closed it down. With many thanks for your advice.

Granted, we can rely on posts by primary sources such as Brandon – an employee of Microsoft  https://twitter.com/brandonleblanc/status/1701737891721048324   .

But who is PhantomOcean3  https://twitter.com/PhantomOfEarth/status/1701729155803697181    and why should we trust what they post?

According the 16-Jun-2023 How-To Geeks article The New Outlook for Windows Will Arrive for Everyone in 2024:

Microsoft has now confirmed that the new Outlook will be installed on new Windows 11 PCs “beginning in 2024” as the default email application. On existing PCs, there will be a toggle in the Windows Mail and Calendar applications to switch to Outlook. Finally, at the end of 2024, the deprecated Mail and Calendar apps will be removed from the Microsoft Store. It’s not clear when the older apps will stop working entirely, but presumably, that will be around the same time they are pulled from the store…“.

A DISM commandlet string or batch script will remove it should anyone feel inclined to purge and use a third party alternative instead. That Outlook will likely be a neutered and laced with advertisements.
So, don’t worry about what hasn’t happened yet.
Remember, anything for FREE usually has some sort of cost, short or long-term.

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...
