I use Secunia and it told me I needed an update.
It tells me that Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 4.x
    Version: 4.209876.0
    Secure Version: 6.x
    Criticality: End of Life

I click to update and it brings me to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3988
There are 4 different files. Don’t know which would work for me. I don’t even know what this is.
I have Windows 7 and Windows Update says I’m up to date.
    I’m confused! What is that?

I looked at your linked page and 2 of the files appear to be for a 32-bit version of Windows [the first and third] and the other 2 are for 64-bit Windows [the second and fourth]. Start, right-click Computer, click Properties to determine which you have. The 64 in the file name distinguishes from the other.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"

Berton, mine is 64-bit. So, which one?

      I’d go with msxml6_x64.msi.

Ok, I downloaded msxml6_x64.msi file. Secunia says it still needs updating. I even rebooted and ran another scan….still says update?

If you installed the update you downloaded then you probably have an installed program which has an embedded version of the xml services. It may require that specific version. You’d have to figure out what the program is and then determine if you can replace the xml version it uses.

Joe, I’m computer illiterate on the programs of a computer. Don’t know what to look for :'{ , what it means or how to replace & fix things. Can you walk me through it?

Are you experiencing any issues? If not, I would chalk it up to a Secunia false positive and get on with life. I gave up on Secunia long ago because I ran into too many issues like this. If you want to continue using Secunia, I believe it has an item ignore option but since I no longe use it, I can’t point you to it.
