I have a 64 bit Windows 7 PC. I would like to use my Micortek Scanmaker 4800 scanner with it. The software installs, but does not run. I get a message (can’t find scanner). I would appreciate any help with this issue.

    Thanks
    Jerry

Click Start, then Devices and Printers. Does your scanner show up in the list of devices?

        Yes, the scanner shows up.

The Microtek ScanMaker 4800 was introduced in 2001 and isn’t supported by any built-in driver in Windows 7. The last released driver was for Windows XP.

YouTube shows a video of a user claiming to have made this scanner work with Windows 7 64-bit by running the XP SP2 driver in ‘Compatibility Mode’.

I have my doubts but here’s the links:

      Hope this helps…

You are right. It does not work in compatibility mode

Do you think XP MODE is worth a try?

XP Mode does work in many cases, but it is ONLY available for the Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise editions of Windows 7. However, if your scanner does show up in the list, then I figure you can try a scan from Paint, just to see if it works.
