Anyone else having an issue with their mouse not loading properly in Windows 8.1? I use two older “Kensington Expert Mouse” devices on both my Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit Dell and HP machines. Everything was fine before I installed the December 2020 Security Only Updates. Now the mouse works on about two-thirds of the boots. When the mouse doesn’t load properly, unplugging the USB connection and reinserting usually takes care of the problem. Not very handy, though, on a floor-mounted desktop. Thanks!

more than likely USB settings, look in device manager for USB and disable powersaving mode.

That happened recently- i’m on Win 8.1 x64 too- it wasn’t right
after updating, but as you’ve described, the cursor/mouse wouldn’t
function, very sporadically. Solved as you have written by re-inserting
the mouse connection. I don’t know why it happened, but the obvious
fix sometimes escapes me.☺️ It might not be your case, but thought
I’d mention as a feedback. You’ve probably had it fixed some way already.

Thanks for both of your posts.  I have all the power saving options turned off in Control Panel on both desktops.  On one computer, there were two USB Hubs under USB Controllers in Device Manager that had “Allow the computer to turn off this device” checked, but the other computer had no such selections checked.  It doesn’t seem logical for the computer to have any USB Hubs turned off when first booting up, but I did uncheck the power saving option on those two hubs.

I’ll watch what happens on both computers – maybe the January Security Only update will fix the issue??
