Today, I installed Why So Slow on my Windows 10 computer (sometimes the comuter seems slow).

I was surprised to see that multiple versions of my apps are running.  For example, there were four versions of Chrome that were running, even though I had just rebooted the computer.  Some of the Windows services had many versions running.

Is there any way to suppress all that unnecessary use of resources, or is Why So  Slow giving me an inacurate picture?

In Chrome (and Firefox..) each tab, each extension… is running its own process as if a process crash it won’t crash the app (Chrome).

Open Chrome – more tools – task manager and see the list of tasks (processes)

The same goes for Windows OS services.

For reasons given above, Firefox will start multiple subsidiary processes, especially if several tabs are open.  The process limit is set in Tools > General > Performance.  Each additional process will use more memory, but if you have plenty of RAM and want to set the limit even higher, then in About:Config go to dom.ipc.processCount and set a higher number.
