I am volunteerig with a community group to file taxes with a the canadian revenu agency. The agency requires that the soft ware point to a encrypted usb drive. What is the best and free way to encryp a usb drive?

These are some freebies you could look at http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/12/featured/5-best-free-usb-encryption-software.html although I’ve read that TrueCrypt requires Administrator privileges if using on different machines – don’t know about the others as I’ve never needed either but hope this helps.

I’ll give a +1 to TrueCrypt. I use it to encrypt several USB keys and USB external drives, and I have no problem accessing the drive contents from any machine with TrueCrypt installed.

Yes but these machines will be used by others who it may not be desirable to allow admin privileges, if this is indeed the case.

I would suggest TrueCrypt as well.

Users without admin privileges can use TrueCrypt but only if a user with admin privileges has first installed it. See Using TrueCrypt Without Administrator Privileges for more info.

We’ve used it at work for similar purposes to the OP and it has worked very well.

      Hope this helps…

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
