I’m running Win98 SE, using a peer-to-peer network, with ICS installed, and am experiencing a networking problem. Computer1 shows both itself and Computer 2 in its network, but can’t access Computer2. Computer2 shows only itself in its network. I know the 2 computers are communicating, because Computer1 can access a DSL line installed on Computer2. What gives?

Do you have File and print Sharing turned on on Machine 1? In a network such as your the machine will not be visible to other members of the network unless that is turned on.

When you say that machine 1 can see machine 2 but can’t access it – what happens when you try and click on machine 2? Can you tell us the error message??

Check that protocol NetBEUI for your NIC shows in the Control Panel>Network>Configuration.
