I wasn’t sure if I should continue with the prior thread or create a new one for a separate issue. So, my laptop with issues previously discussed here is going back to mfr for replacement.

The machine totally discharged itself as I watched it do so while it was plugged in. I pulled the power supply and let it sit for a couple of hours and plugged it back in  & it recharged. The next time this happened the machine never recovered and is totally dead.

What I’m asking about is whether or not Win11 24H2 cares if I keep the same name as the one I used for the laptop being returned? It will be the exact same, specs and all. TY

I assume you are talking about the Device Name (or computer name) (a) which is autogenerated during OOBE (Out Of the Box Experience) – as opposed to the Device ID (b) which is a computed GUID (Globally Unique IDentifier).

      device_name

The Device Name can be easily changed afterwards – for example, in the Settings > System > About dialog (c) or by a script – but the Device ID cannot.

If you have a look at this Microsoft Learn article Information sent to Microsoft during activation you’ll see that the Device Name is not one of the items of information sent to Microsoft, because it is so easily changeable.

As a result, you can use the same Device Name for the replacement laptop when it arrives.

      Hope this helps…

Yes, the device name was what I was inquiring about. Thanks for that as well as the Microsoft Learn article. Much appreciated.
