Sometime ago post 261239, I replaced a friend’s video adapter card with a SDRAM AGP GeForce 2 MX200 Card (windows98) and it worked. Tonight I get an email from her and she says her display has suddenly turned green and would like me to help her out in correcting this. I would like to go into this somewhat prepared so other then checking out connections of the monitor cable, what else could be causing this? Is the monitor itself now going bad? Can anyone point me into the right direction of trouble shooting this problem?
in advance

AskWoody LoungerOctober 29, 2003 at 12:55 am #736747Hi Skitterbug,
My first thought on reading your post is that the monitor has gone south, with only the green “gun” dominating the display.
BUT, this could also be a bad video card, of course. Beyond checking cables and reinstalling video drivers, reseating the card itself in it’s slot, troubleshooting by substitution will probably be your best bet. Do you still have the old card around, just to sub it and try it out? Same with monitor, but not too many people keep spare monitors around!!
You might try uninstalling the V card in Device Manager and letting Windows reinstall it or set the video card type to plain vanilla VGA. Again, this is to see if the other colors come back or not.
My guess is still with a monitor trouble though.Bob

AskWoody LoungerOctober 29, 2003 at 7:29 am #736821Hi Cowboy! I wondered if the connection could be a problem. I had trouble with the monitor cable fitting into the port on the card at the time of installation but I didn’t think that I had messed it up since the display was crystal clear. But like you mentioned, something could be messed up with it. So I will be checking it out along with all of Bob’s suggestions as well. Seems like once a “headache” begins on an older computer, a simple fix doesn’t seem to stop the problems!
