Newbie Trying To Configure Network Connection

I apologize at the start but I am bamfoozled on how to get my two computers connected on the same network. While I have had a lot of experience with computers, I depended on my son-in-law to handle the networking chores but he recently passed away with Lou Gehrig’s, so I am in the dark. Both computers have Windows 10 Home installed.The HP All-In-One has been upgraded from WIN 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro to Win 10 Home (all 64 bit). We haw ATT Uverse and both computers connect to the internet via the same access point and have the same use rid and password. The other computer is a HP Spectre 360 laptop purchased with Win 10 Home installed. The laptop Network and Sharing Center screen gives the Userid and Connection input the same as those for the desktop. The laptop says it is on a Public Network while the desktop says it is on a Private Network. Both show Access Type as Internet and the Wi-Fi connection info is the same for both (the Userid). Both say the Work Group is Work Group. When I click on Setup a new network or access point and then click on Set Up New Network, it goes to a screen that says to choose the router or access point from the list; but none is ever found in the scan.

Where do I go from here?

You need the laptop to be on a Private network, the same as the others. Try this site.

Now you need to create a HomeGroup on one PC and join the other PCs to the HomeGroup.

Thanks. It looks like his suggestion could work but he has the directions on a slide show/video loop with about 1 second between screens. Hard to follow. Will have to watch it many times and try writing the directions down from each screen. Should be able to catch it after watching 20 times or so. Thanks for your quick response.

You stated you had 2 phones and an xbox that connect to the same wireless router and they have no issue….?
If that is so, then the issue is not with the router but with the laptop. The router is not going to work for some devices and choose not to work for others. So logically the issue is not with the router.
So, check the laptop wireless card drivers. Especially if it (the laptop) was working fine before you went through the upgrades.
The upgrades likely used some default windows drivers. Do a search on the card type and find the card makers official drivers (if there are some)and install them.
Or try a different wireless card. Plug in a USB wireless card (pretty cheap) and see what if it holds a steady connection.
