AskWoody LoungerNovember 7, 2018 at 1:47 pm #231034Hi – that reddit post is about a bug that was specific to an Office update back in Sept and no longer being pushed (16.0.10730.20088). It is not about the Nov 2018 updates, which leave OneNote 2016 alone. Future Office updates are also expected to leave OneNote 2016 alone.

ManagerNovember 7, 2018 at 12:57 pm #231008Hi, Tony. Thanks for the explanation.
Any idea why people are reporting that desktop OneNote is getting removed by one of the Office First Tuesday non-security patches?
Presumably it’s a bug – but I don’t see any correlation. Haven’t even been able to track down which KB is messing things up: No obvious culprits.
Sometimes reports like this are happenstance — a problem arises about the same time as updates arrive, and the updates get blamed. Sure wish I knew what was happening!

if the bug that uninstalls OneNote 2016 hits you, here is the official Microsoft support article telling you how to reinstall it https://support.office.com/en-us/article/install-or-reinstall

AskWoody LoungerNovember 7, 2018 at 9:45 am #230881Simply hillarious. I especially liked the second tweet though:
“This is a known issue that affects users on Microsoft Office releases prior to version 16.0.10730.20102, where an Office update may have caused OneNote 2016 to be automatically uninstalled for those users. ”
It has a nice ring to it.

GuestNovember 8, 2018 at 1:29 am #231245Both kb4461522 (https://support.microsoft.com/nl-nl/help/4461522/november-6-2018-update-for-office-2010-kb4461522) and kb2863821 (https://support.microsoft.com/nl-nl/help/2863821/november-6-2018-update-for-office-2010-kb2863821) showed up in Windows Update yesterday, both labeled as important, but both unchecked. Did not install them (duh). What I find strange is they both seem to do the same thing.
