After automatic update from 2204 to 2205 (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-2019) all our Outlooks 2016 render all received messages in plain text.

I tried to check and set/unset this settings :

    https://www.technipages.com/outlook-change-view-html-plain-text

, but it did not help.

A few Outlooks are still on version 2204 and those are ok.

I can’t find any info on this bug on internet. Anybody here with this too?

Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Office? I’m running 64-bit and have version 2005. I don’t seem to have this issue. Have you tried running Outlook with add-ins disabled?

        We have 64bit:

        Microsoft® Outlook® 2016 MSO (Version 2205 Build 16.0.15225.20172) 64 bit

And you – do you have version 2005 or 2205 ?

I checked settings and that ‘read all in plai text’ in Trust center is unchecked and even setting it to checked (close/open Outlook ) and then again setting it to unchecked (close/open Outlook ) has no effect.

I tried to disable all addons (even ESET for a test) except one (that is essential for us: Kerio Outlook Offline Connector – it is needed for our Kerio Mail Server).

I will try to set / create new Outlook account from scratch to see if it helps.

Version 2205. Sorry. I see in your post below you’ve come up with a reason. That suggests to me that your mail server or connector is doing something beyond the basics. Outlook’s HTML capabilities are limited.

After the setting change from text to html all received mail before the change will display in text, only new received mail will display in HTML.
You can’t change the past unless you convert your .pst from ANSI to Unicode

So it seem it is really something between Office and Kerio only:

Office 2205 update cause “Outlook messages display in ‘plain text'” when account is created using Kerio Outlook Connector: https://forums.gfi.com/index.php?t=msg&th=39397

No info from Kerio yet – downgrade to 2204 solved the issue for now.

Cheap advice from the peanut gallery:

Stick with receiving (and sending) plain text. It’s only very rarely that I’ve needed HTML laden received mail, as it can be read in plain text. And I always send plain text. Say it plainly.

Kerio released new version of Kerio Connect (9.4.1 p1) and this problem is solved now.
