AskWoody PlusSeptember 29, 2020 at 10:49 am #2299883This is exactly why I do not want anything to do with this new software model that M$ and other software companies are increasingly moving toward. Does not matter if this time it is only affecting work/school users. Next time it could easily be home/personal users or all users. I want the software on my computer, all my files stored on my computer, and I don’t want to have to access any of it by having to log on through an account on the software company’s system.

AskWoody MVPOctober 1, 2020 at 5:03 pm #2300399I’m not sure that this goes here, but…
I’ve been booting back and forth on my dual boot daily driver doin’ some stuff, and early this afternoon after I had booted back into the A side, when I launched Outlook, I got the big red rectangle telling me that Office 365 was updating and would only be a few minutes.
After a few minutes, I got a popup saying the application had failed with error code 0xc0000142. That one’s been around a while. I got the same result with Excel and Word. So instead of fooling with that, I launched Microsoft SARA (Support And Recovery Assistant), logged in with one of my Microsoft accounts, went through the TFA, and SARA finally started examining my machine.
After the examination, SARA decided to re-install Office 365 Home Premium (I guess SARA hasn’t gotten the news about Microsoft 365). After about 15 minutes, all my Office applications are working like nothing happened. No clue (other than possibly corrupted files) as to what the issue was. Office on the B side is still working fine.
I could have restored a drive image in much less time, but I’ve tried SARA without success a couple of times, and I wanted to give it another go to see if it could actually assist with anything. This time it did.
Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things. We were all once "Average Users".
