I have a MS Works database file that I need to open…however, I do not own MS Works. Is there some way that this can be opened with either Excel or Word?

    TIA

I think whether it’s possibl is dependent on the version of Works. But, all you need do to find out is try to open the file in either, or both. They’ll either recognise it, or not. If the DB contents is precious, take a copy and use that to play with.

Web search did not turn up a way, but found that Microsoft Publisher could possibly do a merge from the file. Could be a way to get the data out if you have Publisher.

I have my clients in Works to do a File Save As using a type dBASE IV. It can then be opened directly in Access or imported into Excel. I have had some problems with spaces in the filename and field names but that is easily tweaked. NOTE: while importing into Excel, scroll through the entire database and manually set the column widths or Excel will base the width on the field name or first row of data and truncate wider field data later in the database.
