My Outlook 2010 search has stopped working (32 bit version on a Windows 7 64 bit version). It just say’s searching & then finds nothing every time even when I know the item I’m looking for is there & I can find it manually.
I have tried various fixes recommended, like rebuilding the index etc, all to no avail !
Does anyone have a solution to this ?

AskWoody LoungerOctober 17, 2013 at 8:11 am #1417144found these
1 – Cache mode was already enabled because I use Outlook on a laptop. Fortunately, I found that by toggling cache mode off (closing wizard, restarting Outlook) and then back on (closing wizard, restarting Outlook) Outlook’s search (index) is working again.
2 – Turning “Use Cached Exchange Mode” off finally worked.
3- my Problem was resolved after deleting old OST file and creating new one
4 – Hi all.
I have tried all the possible solutions on tons of different forums and eventually found one thing that works across the board. I followed the steps above being :
•Control panel –
• Programs –
•Turn Windows Features on/off –
•Turned windows search off and indexing on. then wait for changes to take effect. Do a restart. open outlook and do a search.
Then after finding a few things, go to :
•Control Panel –
•Programs –
•Turn Windows Features on/off –
•Turn Windows search back on and leave indexing on.
Let new settings take effect and then restart again. During restart power down/up you will see ‘Windows is Configuring….%’ . That means it is (should be) working. After the restart, open outlook and let it index completely. This should do the trick. ( It did it for me) .
DON’T FORGET to check all the indexing folders are correct before doing this. This can be done in outlook search options – index folders – modify. -

AskWoody LoungerOctober 17, 2013 at 10:44 am #1417176I find Outlook search rather clunky. Since I installed Win7 with its much improved indexing functionality, I just use the Windows search function, i.e. click on the orb and type what you’re looking for in the search box there. Any items in Outlook are usually listed first and you can click on See More Results if you want to get the whole list in an Explorer window. In my experience it’s easier – and a lot faster – than searching directly in Outlook.

AskWoody PlusOctober 17, 2013 at 7:42 pm #1417274Better yet, I left Outlook behind years ago. Searches in Gmail don’t have these problems – ever. Search isn’t MS’s core business and Outlook is decades old code held together with string and rubber bands. I understand leaving it isn’t an option for those folks who work for large businesses where this is the standard but for newer businesses Gmail for Business is very attractive. No, I don’t work for them – just a happy customer.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 17, 2013 at 9:40 pm #1417278I don’t find Outlook items to appear in win7 searches. I do have it checked in index options.
In fact, search in Outlook 2013 is worse than ever. email items that are there often don’t appear. and people searches sometimes return more than one for the same person, one being full contact info, and others being only one email address for the person, with no way to distinguish one from the other before clicking on them. frustrating. MS had been notified about this many months ago, and haven’t bothered to fix it.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2013 at 1:06 am #1417292Have you tried ‘reinstalling’ the indexing service, you’ll have to rebuild the indexes after you do it. Go to Control Panel->Programs & Features->Turn Windows features on or off (its on the left) – uncheck Indexing Service Click OK and wait, now go back to Turn Windows… and check the Indexing Service box. Click OK and wait
Now rebuild the indexes via Control Panel->Indexing Options
Its worked for me a couple of time after I broke Search

AskWoody LoungerApril 29, 2015 at 11:47 pm #1502460First enable the Cached Exchange Mode (if it is no enable). If not then follow the procedure as this in my Windows
Control Panel >> Mail (32-bit) >> E-mail Accounts… >> Change… >> Use Cached Exchange Mode
Check the Use Cached Exchange Mode box, finish out and close the wizard, then quit Outlook and restart it. It should start caching your messages locally. Not only does this make Outlook searchable from Windows Search, it also makes your Inbox significantly faster, especially the instant searches.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 31, 2013 at 12:46 pm #1420307Ok, tried those solutions & so far no change.
However, two I do want to try are:
Turning “Use Cached Exchange Mode” off – How do I do that ?
[/quote]
File->Account Settings. Click over your exchange account in the accounts list and then click the Change button. Uncheck the “Use Cached Exchange Mode” option.& Delete old OST file and creating new one – How do I do that ?
I think you would need to delete the account, delete the file and then recreate the account. I am not sure this would be the only way, though.
Not sure this will help.

Tried this & cannot find “Use Cached Exchange Mode” either here or under advanced setting on Outlook 2010 ? – Am I missing something
