I have a situation where the …OutlookRoamCacheStream_Autocomplete file for my Outlook keeps being reset to a new, empty file every day or two. The new file is empty and contains no addresses. I have had Outlook reset the file. I have also renamed the RoamCache folder so that a new one was created, with its files, but the file reset continues. I am on my sixth file since Dec. 20th.

I am not connected to an Exchange server and use Windows 7 SP1 on 64 bit.

Do I need to reinstall Office 2010 to fix this? It worked fine for several months.

First make sure that someone else, like CCleaner is not removing this.
Have you installed CCleaner and CCleaner Enhancer or some similar software recently?

I’ve never heard of CCleaner so it hasn’t been intentionally installed, and it’s not in my list of installed software. The Stream_Autocomplete file is not removed. It stops being used and a new file gets started that is smaller than the last one. From this screen shot you can see several versions of the file over the last few days.

I do have NEO installed, that I use to organize my e-mail and find items quickly. In NEO’s Inbox I see a message that can’t be opened, with the subject IPM.Configuration.Autocomplete, which I believe is the hidden Outlook message that stores the changes to the autocomplete stream until Outlook is closed and it is written to the file. This message isn’t visible in the Outlook Inbox … just NEO’s.

I think this problem started sometime after NEO was installed and working properly, but since that was about six months ago, my memory of the timing is hazy. Thanks for your reply.

Strange problems in Outlook are often the result of an add-in misbehaving. Try running Outlook with add-ins disabled and see if it still happens.

I just turned off NEO to see how it goes for the next few days. Based on the history, the file should reset within three or four days – and sometimes twice a day. There sure are a lot of COM add-ins that like to connect to Outlook! If it isn’t NEO it could be very tedious turning them off one at a time to test, but I can’t think of any other option, if no one has seen this behaviour before. Thanks Joe.

I’m curious to know if turning off NEO solved your problem?

Yes, it turned out to be that the file that’s invisible in Outlook is not invisible in NEO, and it was being deleted by me every time I spotted it because I didn’t know its purpose. The message has the subject IPM.Configuration.Autocomplete and its date gets updated whenever you make a new entry to the AutoComplete list, which is stored in this message until you exit Outlook, at which time the disk file is updated with the changes.

NEO need to make this message invisible, as Outlook does, so it doesn’t get removed.
