I use Outlook 365 to view my emails locally. Most of the time I can view graphics in the emails with no problems. However, today, I have received a series of emails from Zinio support, and the graphics do not display, even after clicking to download pictures. What is puzzling is that the graphics do show correctly if I use email on my smartphone (Android), or view it at my ISP.

In Outlook, I tried clicking on “…view it in a web browser”. That did display the email with graphics – but it used Internet Explorer 11! Why the heck THAT browser (#$%!!), not Microsoft Edge, or even better – the one that is designated as my default browser (Firefox) in Windows Settings?

Can I configure Outlook to use something other than IE11? How?

I just tried that, and it opened the email in my default browser Opera.
ETA: I have IE 11 installed, and use it occasionally.

Can I configure Outlook to use something other than IE11?

I had a look thru the settings and didn’t see anything about browser selection.

I would really like to know how to change the “view in browser” in Outlook from IE11 to anything else, even Chredge.  Based on Google results, there are a lot of folks who have the same question.  Once you get past the responses that talk about changing the default browser (which has no effect here), you find that this seems to be impossible.

“Impossible” is something of a null word in computers – it usually means the solution is too hard, too expensive or both.  In this case, however, it does seem to be the case.

What’s amazing in that, despite Microsoft’s own admission of IE’s shortcomings, it has not addressed this.

The solution is to associate .mhtml and ..mhtm file types with Chrome/Firefox…

This is still a problem and obviously cannot be fixed because Edge doesn’t support .mht or .mhtml files.  So the only option is to have Outlook open IE when you click on “View In Browser”

Open the Microsoft Store app and look for MHT Viewer and install it. Go to settings and search for file associations. When that comes up, look for MHTML and MHTM and you should now have the option to change from IE11 to MHT Viewer. Next time you try the “View in Browser” it will open in MHT Viewer.

Posts in a user form do not make it so.   As many users replied in both forums, the ONLY browser offered for .mht or .mhtml files is IE.  The other options are Word, Excel and the Microsoft Store, the latter only shows third party apps, none of which are browsers.
