Running Mint Mate 20.3 on Dell 5060 desktop.  Today Firefox failed to load three out of five tabs that are set to open when opening FF.  Message “could not connect to server.”  Other two tabs normal and several non-tabbed sites chosen at random from bookmarks also normal.  Computer acts as expected otherwise.  Tried updating from FF 115.0 to 115.0.2, problem persists.  Performed other updating chores including Linux kernel, no change in FF performance.  Vivaldi browser on same machine operates correctly on all sites tested including problem sites in FF.

Possibly related- two nights ago we had a brief hiccup in electrical power here and this computer had “semi” booted by itself overnight.  Commanded reboot and all seemed good during the day yesterday.  There is a surge suppressor on the house electrical system.  The computer is normally plugged in and shut down overnight.

    Suggestions appreciated!

On further investigation web search using DuckDuckGo displays no hits, heading only.  Couple of other sites also have display errors.

Have you tried Firefox in Safe Mode?
Have you disabled all extensions and added them back one at a time to see if one is causing the problem?
Have you reinstalled Firefox? (Updating doesn’t do a full install).

Considered but not yet made these moves.  Would save my several hundred bookmarks to a stick and note the added extensions before reinstalling the browser.

The hamburger menu lists an item for importing bookmarks, passwords, history, and autofill data but no option for doing that from removable media.  Installed a stick to see if it appeared as a source but it does not.  Options for installing b/m’s etc are from another browser (Vivaldi) or from HTML file.

Proceeding with caution as I’m good at shooting myself in the foot.

UPDATE:  disabled extensions, FF worked correctly.  Enabled extensions, FF still working correctly.  Time will tell whether any hidden issues.

Well, from FF hamburger menu, > Bookmarks , selecting Manage bookmarks, then selecting from the resulting Library page Import and Backup, you have the listed choice Export Bookmarks to HTML …, which you should be able to use to export your bookmarks to an HTML file on your USB stick. I have used this approach in the past when migrating to a new system.

Disclaimer: I’m using FF 115.0.3 on W10 22H2, but I would be surprised if the interface on Linux Mint would be markedly different.

I did save b/m’s to a stick, turned out I didn’t need that backup.  You can see by my previous post that I didn’t really “fix” anything- but disabling and re-enabling extensions was the answer. (fingers crossed anyway🙂 )

Firefox has been loading some websites very slow on my LMC 20.  I’ve put up with it thinking that it’s my slow Internet connection.  It works but I sometimes wonder what’s going on.

Being 20 something in the 70's was so much better than being 70 something in the insane 20's

How slow is it?  As cheapskates we have just 100/100 service and sites load w/o problem.
