According to the Help and books, if I want to make a Pivot table view of a data source, ALL I have to do is drag the fields to the drop areas from the field list.
When I try to do this from ANY data source.
    1. The Table View gives me NO drop areas other than the Detail Area
    2. The Chart shows me ALL the drop areas, but I can only drop stuff in the DATA area.
None of the menus for the PIVOT Objects work at all (i.e. Can’t change the chart type etc).

I have also tried this on more than one database and the problem persists exactly the same on them all.

I am running Office XP on Windows 2000 Professional SR2
I have even tried doing a complete repair of OFFICE.

Anyone else met this problem or know what might be causing it?
Is this one of those Office XP and Windows 2000 issues?
I tried looking at the Microsoft FAQ’s but can’t even find one article on it.
Sadly also Woody’s Office XP book has no useful information on using this feature either.
    (Maybe next issue eh!)

I would test ACCESS XP on another machine, but the irritating activation code of XP means that
I would have to contact Microsoft again.

    Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Look at the options and table behaviour. Dropping fields to the drop areas may have been switched off.
Chart and table are not independent, so check both.

Exactly where are these options set ?
        Especially the DROP options.
I cannot find anywhere in the main options.
Nor any properties that would seem to enable or disable it.
When I get to the Pivot View all menu options are greyed out.
Also, On the PivotTable I don’t even get a drop area.
On the Chart I see them, but they are greyed out and you cannot use them.

When you are in the table view, right klick and choose properties. In the 3rd tab you can switch drop zones.
In the chart view choose properties and examine the Show/Hide Tab.

            Ah.
This would be a good solution
Unfortunately, as I said in my last e-mail
ALL the Right Mouse menu options are greyed out on BOTH PivotTables and PivotCharts
            and so nothing works.
Indeed, if I close the Field window in either of these views it is impossible to get it back again.
So the only place I could go to enable the features is disabled.
It would appear my ACCESS is broken.
Unfortunately a repair OR re-install make no difference.

For what it is worth, I am having the same problem! If you come up with a solution, I would love to hear about it and I will do the same if I find an answer.

I have sent this reply direct, but for anyone else who gets to this point on the forum

I applied Office XP SP2 to my pc.
              and it solved the problem.

Maybe it will work for you.

              Good luck.
