• Possible IE11 problem

Hi, I am having a problem while making a purchase online, using my Dell net book, running Windows 7 starter edition and IE11, when I try to purchase something, and the site uses Lloyds Clicksafe, (also known as Verified by Visa), after the processing page appears for Clicksafe, the verified page does not load, I just get an error message that the transaction failed, it works fine on my old XP desktop with IE8 or Firefox, but I don’t want to use it online anymore and need to replace it, so using the net book as a stop gap. Not sure where the problem is, IE11 or windows firewall, I am also using Security essentials, would there be a log of this error somewhere, or a way of tracking it down, hopefully without having to keep trying to make a purchase, though my wife thinks that is a good idea !!!!.

    Thanks for your help

Have you tried Compatibility mode for the site? Go to Tools (the gear) | Compatibility View Settings. The current web site is in the box. Just click the “Add” button if that is what you want to add. Otherwise, change the site to what you want and click “Add”.

Thanks for the reply Joe, I get the same error with any site that uses Clicksafe to verify a purchase, so I thought that the fault was with the Clicksafe part, or does this start with the actual website and I need to use compatibility mode for each site ?

If you are having problems with the Clicksafe part all you should need is the Clicksafe address otherwise you’d need the address for the originating web site.

thanks Joe, I will look for the address and try compatibility mode, will let you know what happens when I have a chance to try it

It could be a compatibility problem with IE 11 and uninstalling that in favour of IE 10 may do it as adding a website to the Compatibility List doesn’t always work.

An alternative would be to try the transaction using another browser such as Firefox but don’t Import anything from IE when setting it up.

With Firefox installed, you will need to go to http://www.adobe.com for the Plug-ins.

To set your usual Home page, use the Firefox dropdown, hover over Options then select Options and under the General tab, enter your Home page URL in the box then click OK and restart FF to effect.

      Thanks Sudo15,

I will see how I go with IE, I was thinking of switching to Firefox, but was not sure if it was a browser problem or maybe windows firewall, if it is no better I will swop to FF.

Thanks again everyone for your help

      Hi Bob,

I just have FF on as an alternative browser should I have problems with IE, but don’t really like it as it’s also a resource hog.

If the transaction works in FF and still not in IE 11 after adding it to the Compatibility List, dropping down to IE 10 (if you prefer IE) would be one solution – or just continue to use IE 11 for everything else except for the transaction.

Lloyds may be aware of this problem and if they haven’t updated the Clicksafe utility, contacting them to report this may produce more info.

        Hi Sudo15

sorry for the delay, have been tied up for a while, I did not get anywhere with IE11, so decided to give FF a go, clicksafe did work, I will have to try a couple of other sites, to give it a good test when my bank account can stand it, but looks good at the moment, as you suggested I will use IE for general surfing.

Thanks again for all your help

Did you contact the bank to see if they’ve updated their systems to accommodate IE 11 or if anyone else has reported problems with it ?

I have to use IE 10 because of compatibility problems with my ISP e-mails – was going to use IE 11 generally and just use FF for those, but couldn’t be bothered with the chew so just downgraded back to IE 10 which is still MS supported with security updates.

If you aren’t fussed whether you use 10 or 11, drop back to 10.

I did ring the bank, but did not get any help, so will stick with FF for now, not every site uses clicksafe so it is not too much of a pain, if it becomes a problem I will drop down to IE10

OK – as long as you are happy 🙂
