• “Post-it” like notes for Desktop

    Hi –

Is anyone familiar with ATNotes or Stickies? I have tried both programs but cannot figure out how, in either program, to keep a particular note in a particular window. I want a note to be visible on the Desktop (Win EX Pro), but it is also visible in other open windows (ie Word, Firefox).

    Thank you.

Hi, All – my bad: Win Exp Pro.

Am looking for a [free]post-it like utility where notes will stay “pinned” to Desktop. I don’t want them to ‘move’ to other open windows…………………Thanks

              acerfmayer,
OK now were on the same page …The way to do this is to add the (Free) Vista “Side Bar” to your OS ..I have done this a while ago for my XP-Pro OS. The side bar with the Sticky Note App is included …The Side Bar will be visable at all times no matter what your running …Ill post a link for you to read through and download …. Just follow the instructions given … To be on the “Safe Side” make a full System Image before you try this.Give me a sec and and I’ll find it again:cheers: Regards Fred

PS: Heres the Link The Screen Shot is what I’m running on the Side Bar …Don’t use the Sticky

Thanks for your time and work on my behalf.

I do not want to have a sidebar visible in other apps that I am running. I want to be able to create a note and have it stay where I place it. I cannot figure out how to do that in ATNotes or Stickies. using Stickies I did create a note that would appear in a folder I call Upkeep, but don’t understand how to create one that will stay on Desktop.

Sorry you spent your time/energy today. I do not want to sound ungrateful ‘cuz I am not.

              Sorry you spent your time

Hello… You do not have to keep the sidebar visable …or you could only use the side bar “Sticky” by itself, and turn it on and off as needed…Regards Fred

Hello… One other suggestion a few actually

              1. Use your MS Word Pad

              2. Use your MS Note Pad

              3. Better choice would be NotePad ++ Free[/url] make a folder and place your notes in it …you then could open it when you want and even keep it on your Desktop.

              Regards Fred

              Hi, Fred –

Had thought of those options but they entail additional clicks. Want to see the note staring at me when on desktop.

The best Stickies application I have found is this one:

      Stickies by Zhorn Software

It is free, fully featured, and configurable. Check it out. I use it every day.

        Hi, JC –

I agree that it’s terrific. It’s the one I’m trying to understand. From reading their various boards, I think one cannot have a note that appears only on Desktop, which is what I was really after.

        Thanks for your post.

I would try the Sticky Notes. They remain on the desktop, and not visible on other apps. It came with my Win 7 laptop but runs on all recent Win OS versions.

I like Stickitby Singer’s Creations. Been using it for years (though not the latest version). If you’re on a LAN, you can even put notes on other people’s desktops, though you have to know their IP address (in my version, anyway).

Thank you, Thank you tonyl! I just downloaded it and it seems to answer just what I was after. Don’t know why I couldn’t find it in my 2-day search for such a program.

It does just what I had been hoping.

Goodness, this thing rambles and rambles. Suggest that you go to any office supply store, purchase a package of “Post-it” notes, use a pencil/pen & write your notes, then paste them on the outside frame of your monitor. Forget about the desktop. Seems pretty simple to me–and the notes are always visible. This works even when the computer is powered down.

After re-reading your initial post, it sounds like you are looking for a note to either stay on top or be visible on the desktop only. The stickies program has a button on each sticky (upper left corner) which lets you toggle On-Top status. Maybe that is what you were after.

      • #1337559

Thank you for your post. Alas, On Top keeps the note visible on all screens. You are right: I am looking for a program that keeps a note on the desktop only.

        Thank you for your input.
