While attempting to do a normal Windows 10 update from 1803 to ? I received the following Issues Found

    1.  Potential Window s update Database error detected – Repair Windows Update Database Corruption

    2.  Windows could not automatically detect this network’s proxy settings (nothing with the network has changed)

    3.  Windows Update components must be repaired – One or more Windows Update components are configured incorrectly.

I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooter multiple times and the Troubleshooter is unable to repair the problems.  I have attempted to run the update(s) and it gets about 60% through and stops stating there is a database corruption error.

I need to know how to fix this so I can update to the currently supported Windows 10 version.  Can you help with this?

    Thank you, Randy

Easy part first. The logged in account should be in the Administrators group (not a Standard account).

In an elevated command prompt run:
+ “chkdsk /f ” (without the quotes). Reboot when asked.
      + After the reboot, run “DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth”
      + “sfc /scannow”
+ Reboot, then try to update again.

If that is unsuccessful, try clearing the datastore. In an elevated command prompt, run each of these commands. You can copy/paste them in one at a time.
      net stop wuauserv
      net stop cryptSvc
      net stop bits
      net stop msiserver
      Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.123
      Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.123
      net start wuauserv
      net start cryptSvc
      net start bits
      net start msiserver
Reboot and try to update again.

Let us know if that works.

Well I ran everything you suggested, tried the update and same end results.  Database corrupt.

When I look at my update history the Windows 10 version that failed to install is 1909 (Ox80240034).

This occurs after the download/install process completes and the computer goes to a restart mode with a percentage clock of the install and not to turn off the computer.

      Any other suggestions?

      Some information is needed here.
What Anti-virus are you using? (Several have been blocked by MS on occasion)
Have you used any update-blocking third-party software? which ones?
Are your drivers up to date? Special emphasis on video and audio.
What Edition of Win10 1803? Home? Pro?
Some specs on the computer – make, model, hardware info.

There are a couple of possibilities – Upgrade Assistant and in-place upgrade using the MCT. But we need to look at the big picture first. Or upgrading to 1809 or 1903.

Check if developer mode is enabled and disable it….

Using Norton Security Online, been using this for over a year.

No to 3rd party blocking software.  No new software was added.

Drivers should be up to date.  Using a Dell Inspirion N5110, Intel Core i5, 6gb memory, 500gb HD.  I have 2 identical PCs and only 1 is having update problems.  Same AV, etc. in use on both PC’s.

      Using Windows Home Edition.

Please verify that the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.123 and
C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2.123 folders exist (verifying that the datastore and catroot2 were rebuilt).

I have done everything that has been recommended and the results are still the same.  During installation it stops at 60%.  The Windows ISO file was run and the following message was given for not being able to update Windows.

      0xC1900101 – 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE operation

The computer was set back to the way it was right before starting installing Windows 10.

Again, this computer is identical to another I have which is updating Windows 10 fine to 1909, but this one not so.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  Randy

This may be attributed IIS partial install situation some are encountering during the upgrade:

The last post from Microfix finally took care of my problem and I am now a proud member of the 1909 family.  THANK YOU!
