Windows update gets as far as “initializing updates” in respect of Build 15060, but then says “Some update files aren’t signed correctly-Error Code (0x800b0109)”.

    How do I fix this?

      What is your current build?

      Joe-Build 15058

You could try running the Windows Update troubleshooter. Go to Settings | Update & security | Troubleshoot.

Joe, I ran the troubleshooter and then went back to Windows Update, but got the same message as in my opening post, except for referring to build 15061.

Do you have any other ideas?

Is the date & time correct on your PC?

It’s a long shot as certificates for signing require accurate date & time.

    • #1593616

Yes, the date and time are correct.

One thing that worked in a thread I saw was to do an in-place update of your current version. Unfortunately, that requires an external device with the build. Microsoft never released an ISO for 15058 and probably won’t.

Another suggestion I saw was to export the certificates from a machine with the same build which is OK and then import to the machine with the problem.

Joe, I don’t have access to an external device with the build, or to a machine with the same build. Can I chat to a Microsoft rep about the problem, and if so how?

We don’t offer technical support for Windows*Insider*Preview or any other prerelease software.
Visit the Windows Insider Preview Community forum

Before you install Windows Insider Preview

The drop down to select the edition at Windows Insider Preview Downloads does have 15058 as one of the choices.

This is brand new, Joe. I had been harping at them for a few days. Good to see that they might try to keep up to it.

        Have a nice evening. Jean.

BruceR, I don’t understand what you are saying. The final release of Win 10 isn’t available yet, so surely all the threads on this Win 10 forum relate to Insider Preview Builds? Many actually specifically refer to Insider Preview versions.

      Did I misunderstand you?

Yes: I was quoting Microsoft’s support policy for Insider Preview (i.e. their forum only), because you asked, “Can I chat to a Microsoft rep about the problem, and if so how?”

But it’s only the final release of the next version of Win 10 (1704) which isn’t available yet. Most people are using the final release of the Current Build (1607).

On this forum people using Insider Preview rather than the Current Build are a very small minority.

Most threads on this Win 10 forum do not relate to Insider Preview builds.

I downloaded the .iso file for Win 10 Pro x 64, Build 15058, the Build I already had installed, edited the security pane, and then, whilst I was running Win 10, double clicked the .iso file and ran Setup.exe.I chose to keep my programs and personal files, and was pleasantly surprised at the speed of completion of the setup process. I then checked for updates and completed the update to Insider Preview Build 15061 without any problems.(I did not get the “some update files aren’t signed correctly” error.)

I did not need to create a DVD from the .iso file.

      Best regards, Roy

BruceR, would you please explain the difference between the Current Build and Insider Preview.

      Thanks and regards, Roy

By “Current Build” he means the Anniversary Update + the latest cumulative update. An Insider Preview build is one which is NOT generally available to the public but is a test build. Microsoft uses the Insider program in a similar manner to beta testing except it is ongoing as Win10 is developed and updated continuously.
