I opened “Ask Woody” master patch (9-28-21) list today, to the right of “Known Issues page:   I clicked on the cell:  ” Resolved issues in Windows 10, version 2004 and Windows Server, version 2004 | Microsoft Docs”. I get a message:

“This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, contact your system Administrator.”

I sent the file to my husbands computer, he opened the excel file and clicked on the “Resolved… cell and it took him to a Microsoft website, so it works! We both have the same windows version 2004 and the same office 2010 software? Any ideas what I can do to fix this??

    Thanks

Unfortunately don’t have access to Office 2010 installation for troubleshooting, as Office 2010 is EOL (not lecturing, just explaining), but if you believe problem lies with Excel config (i.e., vs OS, AV), maybe start by looking at (Office 2010 equivalent of) Trust Center settings, especially settings related to accessing external content, file blocks, and the like?

If nothing jumps out at you, then – as you and hubby are using same version of Excel but getting different results – reasonable next step might be to enlist hubby’s help to do quick but more comprehensive comparison of (differences in) Excel settings between boxes?

Hope this helps, at least a little bit.

At a guess, you’ve downloaded the Excel file version of the Master Patch List (2021-9-28-Sep-All.xlsx ?) and it shows it as ‘blocked’ on your computer but ‘unblocked’ on your husband’s.

On your computer, navigate to the Master Patch List file you downloaded, *right*-click on it and choose Properties. If you see a checkbox marked Unblock (like in the screenshot below), put a tick in it then click on the Apply and OK buttons to dismiss the dialog.

      xlsx_unblock

Once unblocked, try it within Excel again on your computer.

Post back to let us know what happened.

      Hope this helps…

There is nothing below the 3 boxes to the side of “Attributes:”

No “Security” nor the sentence about coming from another computer and no box.

Can it be something on my computer settings for windows and/or file settings?

Thanks, yes I know our excel is out of date.

I would add the folder with the excel file into trusted places in “Office Trust Center”.
They you can run macros, click links and all other “unsafe” stuff.

File > Options > Trust center > Trusted locations

If the file is opened from the network folder, I would also tick “Allow trusted locations on my network”

      Maybe tis could help.
