Program still on computer after I uninstalled it

Good morning all. I uninstalled programs I no longer wanted with Revo Uninstaller and to my dismay, they are still on my computer. Some of them still work and some won’t open with their shortcuts. They no longer show up in the add/remove section of windows 8.1. How do I get them off if now no uninstall program can find them. Do I have to try to reinstall them again so I can uninstall them again or can I just find them in the program file and delete them. I have researched for hours and I am tired and frustrated!! HELP!!

For the ones that won’t open w/their shortcuts it is probably just the shortcut that didn’t get deleted. Just right-click the shortcut and select delete.
What programs are we talking about for the rest.
What version of REVO are you using? The free version will not show or remove 64 Bit software.
Also have you rebooted? Some programs will not fully uninstall until a reboot is performed.

Hi. I am using Revo free version so I guess I am in deep trouble. The shortcuts still open the programs: HP supplies, HP scan dr. and they do work. HOSTS-anti-PUP/Adwares is in the program file but will do nothing when you click on it. I keep finding Pokki downloader, conduit and some saver program which I forgot the name of already since I just got rid of it again for the 7th time with adware cleaner. I have rebooted many many times, searched for the programs in Glary Utilities, JV tools and on the computer itself. I wish I had uninstalled them with one of the other programs, but I love Revo and it has always worked for me before. I am so new to windows 8.1.

Try all the steps listed here to remove Conduit even though you have previousl done some of them:

I have done all of the above and in the correct order several times. It lasts for a time and then periodically they reappear in some scan. Vicious little devils!!

K, hello.
At one time, I too was bothered by Conduit. I went into Regedit and did a find for it, Conduit, then deleted them all. Gone, gonzoed for ever. Not for faint of heart but doable carefully. I am no wiz but I did it. Jean.

Try running Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. Make sure its fully updated first.

i worked on one laptop that had a reoccurring virus. it renamed itself and restarted automatically. i tried various removal software, i.e. free virus scans from the internet, plus the virus removal and malware programs only to see it rename itself and restart. it came up as a variable 8 to 12 digit number with a .exe extension. so there was no ‘name.exe’ to find via a search. the number changed each time it restarted. i had no idea what was calling it.

i used taskinfo and it showed me the path that the call was calling the program from.

the solution was simply… once i found out where it was hiding. it had installed itself in the ‘prefetch’ folder.
so now the last thing i do to clean a PC is tag the files in the prefetch folder and delete them. don’t delete the folder, just the files. the PC will recreate the files it needs on the next reboot.

I found that Revo was doing a bad job of uninstalling things. I switched to COMODO’s free Program Manager, which, so far, has handled everything I’ve tried it with, including 64-bit programs (the last time I tried Revo, the free version specifically said it was only for 32-bit programs). It has a harder time for programs where it didn’t monitor the installation, but still got everything I knew how to search for in the registry.

I suggest you try it and see if it can help you.

Run one or more 3rd party AV/AM applications.

You could also do a line item search in Windows explorer and the registry for all instances relating to the programs in question.
You’ll want to note root folders and any dll’s, if found. Also ensure that they are NOT active in both process and startup.

Take special care when using the registry and also ensure that you have a viable backup regimen in place.
