Our satellite office is complaining that when they select text in Word 2000 and press the Delete key, it prompts in the message area at the bottom of the window “Delete block? No (Yes).” They have to press Enter (or I guess type Y) before it will delete the selection.

I was unable to recreate this scenario at my computer; Word does not ask me for confirmation before deleting a selection.

Is this an option that can be turned off?

Tools/options/general tab and turn off Help for Word Perfect Users.

Did you check the machine(s) that are having problems or just your machine?

This setting MUST be made to the machine(s) that are having the problems.

When logged in as the user and Help for WP users is not checked and the problem persists then this would imply a damaged registry. See Q181471:

      http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar…s/Q181/4/71.ASP

While logged in as the user. I would first try running setup.exe /y
to attempt to rest the data and options keys. If this fails then I would simply go into the registry and rename the Data and Options keys under Word as specified within the Q-article. Restarting word will reset these to the default settings.

      Good luck,

I realise I did not use emojis but, really, the post just saved me on a re-installation of XP. My comment was not meant to trash the post.

And it seems XP users are left to twist in the wind.    So, yes, Thank God The Internet is forever.
