i am using Vivaldi,  current version, on win10.

Ad blocking and tracker protection is turning on in vivaldi, and I am using Canvas Blocker-Fingerprint Project, and Privacy Badger extensions.

I have tested protection at EFF’s Cover Your Tracks, which says “Our tests indicate that you have strong protection against Web tracking”.  I also tested at Browserleaks website, for fingerprinting and it provided a signature for my browser.

I then disabled the 2 extensions and viv ad blocking and tracker protection.  Both web site tests gave exactly the same results: “strong protection” and same signature.

What’s the deal?  the extensions are doing nothing?  I am reading the tests incorrectly?  The tests are inadequate?   Something else?

Can someone explain what is going on with this?

After changing the protection settings, try purging the browser’s cache and dumping the cookies for the website(s). Then rerun the tests/reload the page that runs the test(s). You will probably see a difference.

I cleared cookies and cache and got the same results as before.

then i disabled adnauseum, in addition to the two other extensions and viv ad/tracker blocking.  i figured it was only an adblocker so didn’t try disabling it before.  now it get the same signature as always on browserleaks.

but on Cover Your Tracks result changed to “some protection against web tracking, but it has some gaps.  tracking ad and invisible trackers only get partial protection.  fingerprinting “your browser has a unique fingerprint”  as opposed to “nearly unique fingerprint” with extensions enabled.

so: looking like adnauseum is doing all of the work.  perhaps there is no need for the others. and none are really totally affecting fingerprinting.

wouldn’t the browserleaks signature be changing if canvas blocking was working?

      not an interesting topic?

A reflection on the number of AskWoody users that run Vivaldi regularly?

there must be more than a few, since vivaldi has its own board.

however my question is more generic than just for vivaldi.  I should move (or repost) to a different board.  will a mod read this and move it?  if not, I will repost.

I recently discovered the website amiunique.org. To my dismay, it claims that ALL of my devices and browsers (except for Brave on PCs) have the SAME “canvas” attribute. Even my phone, whether it’s using Wi-Fi or data.

      Unless it’s just scaremongering B.S. …
