Just discovered this excellent article by Susan Bradley about how to limit my next Win 10 Pro Feature Update to 2004 (and NOT to 20H2). (I’m currently on 1909.) This looks a LOT easier than using my .iso for 2004, which I’ve never done.

Questions –
1) So, If I set “Select the target Feature Update version” to 2004, and if my machine plays nice and updates only to 2004, then, after the update, will this entry in Group Policy still be there, or will it be disabled so the machine will then try to update to 20H2? In other words, is this group policy setting persistent through the upgrade to 2004?
2) As soon as my machine updates to 2004, will it then try to install all updates to 2004, even the December updates I want to hold back until we get DefCon 4? Right now, in 1909, my “Windows updates – Advanced options” are:
– Pause updates until January 1, 2021
– Feature updates deferred for 365 days (probably from early December)
– Quality updates deferred for 30 days (probably from early December)
So, if I upgrade to 2004 per “Select the target Feature Update version”, will any of these deferrals still be there? If not, what do I do before or after the upgrade to 2004?
3) Right now, given my current three deferral settings, if I set “Select the target Feature Update version” to 2004, what exactly do I do to get my PC to start the feature update to 2004? Just hit the “Resume updates” button? Or reset “Feature updates deferred for 365 days” to a lower number of days (how many?) and just sit back and wait?
Thanks. Happy Holidays. And don’t exhale until you’re vaccinated.
