After upgrading to w10 my adobe acrobat 9 is starting to lose functionality and of course adobe say it is not compatible with w10.

    I use adobe to;

      [*]Scan
[*]Add scans to an existing PDF document
      [*]Create multiple and nested bookmarks
      [*]Extract pages from the document
      [*]Convert scans to text
      [*]Highlight text
[*]Add text boxes or make comments
      [*]Create and edit forms

Can someone recommend a PDF editor other than Adobe that can do this please?
I am not sure that I need the full optioned (and expensive) new version of Adobe. Not after freeware, happy to pay.

    thanks

One of the most recent reviews of PDF Editors shows Foxit PhantomPDF and Nitro Pro 9 both having 4.5 stars, beating Acrobat Pro X1 Pro.

You may wish to check out two free PDF editors first, AbleWord (mentioned in the article) and PDF-XChange Editor, which wasn’t reviewed but is mentioned a couple of times in the comments.

      Hope this helps…

Adobe Reader 9 is seriously out-of-date.

Uninstall Adobe Reader 9 from Control PanelPrograms and Features.

      Then download/install Adobe Reader v11.0.10 from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/en_US/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe

Once you have AR v11.0.10 running OK download/install the latest v11.0.15 update from: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.15/misc/AdbeRdrSecUpd11015.msp

Your Adobe Reader should now work fine in Win10.

        thanks Coochin,

I don’t have teh reader, I have the paid version. I have also bought a new Lenovo Yoga 3 with a high def screen. Acrobat used to display nicely but after one of the recent windows updates acrobat stopped displaying correctly. I am over high priced software – and teh reader does not have enough features.

Adobe Reader 9 is seriously out-of-date.

The original post was about Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader. There is a major difference.

That being said, Adobe Acrobat 9 is also seriously out-of date. It may be time to upgrade…

I use Soda PDF and have found it excellent and versatile (but it presently costs $129 for the full professional version with Optical Character Recognition included. The Standard package, which permits editing and insertion of text, costs $59). You can chooses which add-ons you want for the free reader and only pay for what you need. See here for product details:

I use SODA PDF in windows 10 (64-bit), but have also used it in Win 7 (32 bit) and 8.1 (64-bit)

I have downloaded a trial version of the basic Foxit which costs $89 and does what I need. It also displays well on a high def screen which is a big tick.
