remote access using an Android phone

Hi, I hope this is the right section for this post,

 

I have been given a Raspberry Pi kit, which I was going to use to make a security camera, connected to my local network via wifi, but I would also like to be able to connect to the camera from outside my network with my android phone, what would be a good way to arrange this, without opening the network up to everyone.
