Yeah, I know Windows Mobile is out there on the fringes, so this one seems niche. However, I encountered this issue after a Windows 10 mobile reset of a device last night. Thankfully, it’s not my primary device, as it makes any Windows Mobile device pretty much useless.
If you hard reset your Windows Mobile device (Windows 8.1, Windows 10) there’s a good chance you won’t be able to sign into any Microsoft account at this time. Meaning no getting into the Windows Store. No getting into the Windows Insider program. No getting to any resources Microsoft wanted to tie to a user using a Microsoft account (possibly e-mail, contacts, etc.). I can’t see how they could make a mistake like this –well, I can see it (sounds like online changes to the Microsoft account experience are causing the issue) but at the same time, I can’t see how those online changes were made without respect to their device ecosystem, even if it’s not a huge one. This is the only article I know of currently reporting the problem.
So much for my Lumia 640. Thankfully, it was only a backup device. It will probably be fixed, but it’s another headliner in Microsoft’s poor QA and planning.
