• Restoring NTBackup backup

    Hi

I have a backup file on disk created using ntbackup on Win2k. Does anyone know how I can restore files from this backup using Win98? If it’s relevant, the file system on the Win2k computer was FAT32.

    Thanks

You can NOT use the 2K disks on the 98 machine using the 98 backup program.

You will need to restore the needed files on a 2K system and then copy them to a floppy, CD or zipdrive and then to the 98 system. If the two systems are on a network, you can copy accross the network after restore.

Thanks for your reply, Dave. I’m surprised there isn’t a utility out there somewhere that will read Win2k ntbackup files. I found one that runs on Linux frown

The problem with the MS backup program, each one that come with each OS will NOT work with another OS. One Can not even backup their system with this program and then install a new OS and then restore the backup.

I use my own method of back up by using the copy and/or xcopy commands and/or the drag and drop of Windows to different media. I do not rely on any third party for my data backups.

That said I do use Drive Image to burn a system image at different times.
