• Retr command failure in Mozilla email app

    During mail downloads in Mozilla Thunderbird process is interrupted by “RETR command failed” forcing to acknowledge message and hit download button. Then emails come down again only to be interrupted again. During a 200 msg download, transmittal can be interrupted as many as ten times (though not always). Interestingly enough, the number of original of messages to be accessed at the end remains the same (no message lost). Any idea on how to prevent this or fix it? Thanks

      I have been getting error messages in Thunderbird but I must confess I just close them and it doesn’t seem to effect the download of my emails. I will pay better attention if it comes up again and report here.

      That error is caused by a comms issue between you and the email server. Do you have bad/slow connections to other sites?

        I don’t think I have slow connections between e-mail server and me. Speedcheck info gives the following: download 130.88 mbps; upload 158.88 mbps. Ping latency 20 ms. What is frustrating is the lack of definitive info on Mozilla Thunderbird tech help site! Any ideas? Thanks.

      Your internet speed is OK so the issue is probably the email site itself.
      Is it a mainstream provider or niche?
      How often do you download 200 messages?
      Do you have lots of attachments in the messages?

        My provider is earthlink. I download between 100 and 200 e-mails daily. Attachments are few, less the 3.

      Can you split the downloads into smaller batches / leave it running for a while so they trickle in?
