This is a tale of two monitors {“The Best of Times, The Worst of times”} one 24″ the other 27″. Both have the same resolution 1920×1080. Should I expect everything on the 27″ monitor to just be bigger and maybe less sharp? Or should it be bigger and just as sharp? I’ve never dealt with display panels this large before in my past experience the larger the panel the higher the resolution, this I understood as it would have more pixels. However, with the same resolution but a larger screen it would seem to me to be larger pixels on the 27″ monitor vs smaller pixels on the 24″ screen to fill a smaller space. Am I missing something here?

AskWoody_MVPMarch 23, 2011 at 8:33 pm #1273055Thanks guys.
Yes, both monitor’s max {native} resolution is 1920×1080. Chowur, that’s a nice chart only wish it had the resolution in question on it, I have no idea how to interpolate the chart to my needs since they don’t give the mathematics they used.
The model I’m seriously considering is a Samsung P2770FH. It’s the 27″ model alluded to in my original post.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 23, 2011 at 10:51 pm #1273082You’ll get the best ‘sharpness’ at the monitor’s native resolution. Although they can display other resolutions, the sharpness with be ‘a bit’ to ‘significantly’ less sharp.
As a side note, for good old CRTs, sharpness is not based on ‘native’ resolution, and they are effectively always at ‘native’ resolution, and are therefore ‘better’ if you want to play with lots of different resolutions.
