Since September (2018) my attempts to update security related patches have “FAILED” with no feedback from Windows update as to why. PLEASE HELP.
Patches KB4467108, 7240, 7107, 7224 keep failing to install.
Thank you. Jack B

This sounds like you do not have the Servicing Stack update KB3177467 v2 for your system.
I’ll direct you to a great post by PKCano to rectify this:
#229402
If you use Windows Update to patch your PC then you are Group A
You didn’t state whether your OS is 32bit or 64bit?
If neither KB3177467 v1 or KB3177467 v2 are installed, you will need to:
+ HIDE the Rollup
+ Install or hide everything else in the “important updates” list. The “important updates” list must be empty.
+ If you just installed any updates, reboot, wait 15 minutes, search for updates. If you did not install any updates, search for updates.
+ Install KB3177467 v2 and wait 10 minutes for the installation to complete.
+ Unhide the Rollup and any other updates you hid, and install them.

Thank you for helping. I successfully installed KB3177467 (no v associated) on 10/24 and the problems continue. THANK YOU again Jack48009
First – Don’t even try to install 7108 or 7224! They are both Previews! (Which means they are even more half-baked than the non-Preview MS patches)
Second – Be aware that if you download and install 3177467 from the Microsoft Update Catalog, that there is no direct mention of ‘v1’ or ‘v2’ on that update page. The 2 versions are there but you can only tell the difference by date: one batch of 7467 patches is dated 2016 and the other batch is dated 2018. If you installed a 2016 patch you still need the 2018 patch.
Make sure you have the correct bit-size and patch:
x86 (32-bit)
x64 (64-bit)
KB3177467 last updated 10/8/2018:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/search.aspx?q=3177467
Please provide an error message for the update, the list of updates you are trying to install, and system information including bit-size.
KB4467108 is a preview. Avoid it.
KB4467240 is for .NET Framework (x64). Right now, don’t install it.
KB4467107 is November security monthly rollup.
kb4467224 is a preview for .NET Framework. Avoid it.
EDIT: Follow Microfix instructions as shown below first.
Ok let’s clear your Windows Update cache.
Access windows ‘run’ by pressing the windows logo key and r simultaneously
within the run box type:
Services.msc
Once services window pops up, Stop the following services by right clicking them and click STOP
Windows Update
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Cryptographic Services
Then within Windows File Explorer delete all the files within the following two folders:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
Once done, restart your computer and check WU as normal
Note:
This will initially take longer due to WU establishing what is installed and what is available for your system whilst collating the information in your DataStore folder.
Subsequent WU checks will be far quicker.
Hide ANY patches that appear in the ‘important updates’ section, then check again, hiding any more that appear.
Once done and no more appear, shutdown your PC for 15 mins, then follow on from PKCano’s walkthrough.
install KB3177467 and wait 10 minutes for the installation to complete. + Unhide the Rollup and any other updates you hid, and install them.
Partial Success- The procedure provided by Microfix worked flawlessly – THANK YOU!
When done I had 3 “Important” patches that needed to be applied – KB4227172, KB4461579 (both Office updates), and KB4467107 (Nov security rollup).
When I attempted to apply KB3177467 x-64 dated 10/8/18 security patch from the catalogue it replied “…is already installed on this computer.”
KB4467107 FAILED – no explanation. I still need help and THANK YOU to everyone who has helped to date. Jack48009

EDIT to remove HTML
Please verify KB3177467 is installed on your computer by looking at Installed Updates. What is the date this update was installed?
If KB3177467 was installed as per Microfix instruction, nothing further was needed from the catalog regarding this update.
Try Windows Update Troubleshooter
If you are having problems updating, select the correct version for your operating system, download it, and run it. It may not cure your problem, but then again, it may:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027322/windows-update-troubleshooter
After running the troubleshooter, check for updates again. What updates do you see pending?
Geekdom/Microfix/DrBonzo: I ran Troubleshooter as you (Geekdom) suggested and it appears to run normally.
I then checked for updates and the only IMPORTANT update was KB4467107 – the Security rollup.
My attempts to install it have now FAILED twice.
My history of updates appears to have been deleted when I ran Services.msc on Dec 4 per Microfix’s advice.
Thank you again for assistance but now what? All help is welcome. Jack48009
I’m fresh out of ideas and we are now at DEFCON-4 which means it’s safer to apply November updates. You might consider posting your problem here:
https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/ms-defcon-4-a-perfect-calm-before-the-next-patching-storm/
I would like to once again say THANK YOU and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to GEEKDOM, MICROFIX, and DrBonzo as well as Woody for your assistance. My security patch for November KB4467107 FAILED again to apply today (12/8) but for now my system is running fine. I will repost my problem per Geekdom’s Dec 8 advice. Thanks again.
