I keep getting a message about allowing insecure data.

Is there a way to turn that off?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Can you be more specific about the message?

Some dialogs contain a checkbox instructing the browser not to warn you any more. Is that an option in this case?

          Select Tools | Internet Options…
          Activate the Security tab.
Select Internet in the “Select a zone…” frame.
          Click “Custom Level…”.
Scroll down until you see “Display mixed content”.
Change this option from Prompt to Enable.
          Click OK and confirm.

Hans, and I get the attached in my e-mail. I can’t find where the setting to shut that one off is, but I DO trust my own messages!

Is there a setting to shut it off?

This belongs in a thread of its own – most likely in the Outlook forum.

Joe, I thought maybe as well, except that I wasn’t sure that it wasn’t/isn’t an IE security issue.

              Regards,

Chuck, this is for the benefit of your correspondents. They may (should!) have turned on attachment security that blocks, for example, .exe and .url files. The dialog is a hint that maybe you should zip the attachment or change the extension so that it is not blocked on the receiving end.

Jefferson, I’m glad IE is so thoughtful of my respondents. Too bad they have no way of being thoughtful to me! bwaaah

            • #1134795

It’ not IE being thoughtful, but as the message box clearly states, Outlook.

            • #1134804

Thanks Hans. I wasn’t sure, as Outlook messages used to be tied into IE.

Isn’t/aren’t security (settings) in Outlook in part controlled in Word’s Trust Center?

              Regards,

Outlook 2007 is much less intertwined with Internet Explorer than previous versions.

I don’t think Outlook 2007’s security settings are controlled by Word, but I’m not an expert on that, so don’t take my word ( pun) for it.

            • #1134815

I don’t see anywhere else Hans. Outlook is showing no “Security” options that I see.

            • #1134816

Doesn’t Outlook 2007 have a Tools | Trust Center menu option (in the main application)?

            • #1134817

              Hans:

Yes, it does, but I don’t see there where warnings on attachemts would be controlled.

Maybe it’s there and I’m just not seeing it.

Why would you want to turn it off? If you send an e-mail with (for example) an .exe file as attachment, the recipient won’t be able to save or open the attachment because it’s deemed too dangerous. So it’s very useful that Oulook warns you before you dispatch the message.

            • #1134819

I can understand exe’s, but htm and/or msg files? When I got this first it was a Word document.

Each of them could contain dangerous scripts…

              Well then, OK.

By the way, it is not ‘normal’ that Outlook should block files with extensions such as .doc, .xls or .ppt (.mdb is blocked though) – the default setting must have been changed.

The free add-in Attachment Options from Ken Slovak lets you customize (to some extent) which extensions are blocked.

              Great! Thanks Hans.

The help doesn’t mention being able to change this. But perhaps there is something on Microsoft.com that would describe how to do it.

              Isn’t this the Level1Remove key?

Here is some of the technical aspects:

            • #1135942

Ah, yes, you can undo the blocking, but I didn’t see a way to keep the blocking and just eliminate the warning message.

            • #1136075

              OK, thanks guys.
