      Check ‘reliability monitor’ for errors

Hi Alex5723 thanks for the reply.

In an elevated Command Prompt (Run as Administrator), run the following commands:

          DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
          sfc /scannow

Note any errors/corrections. See if that fixes Settings.

            Thanks PKcano.
I have run the commands and the results are attached.
I ran the sfc ?scnnow earlier and it showed some corrupt wer found
            and corrected.
The “Settings” still the same. Thanks

Magnus, what moderation is this waiting?

The “Settings” still the same. Thanks

      Run SFC /scannow again

If that doesn’t help run repair/install.

      • #2690872

Ran sfc /scannow again no errors found.
Ran the repair/install and result attached.

Have tried to reply to Drcard and Alex5723 but would not submit.
Many thanks for all the help.
Reair/install seems to have resolved the problem with “Settings”

It happens to me, too – albeit very occasionally.

FWIW, the file “StartMenuExperienceHost.exe” appears to be hanging and then closing.  A search of various MS/W10 forums suggest that there are quite a few others with the problem since the start of this year.

Beyond the suggestions already made above, there’s very little you can do about it. I find that restarting my device after the problem occurs seems to ‘flush’ it away for several days, even weeks.  Fully shutting down your device (with Fast Start-up switched OFF) at the end of each day is, in my opinion, good practice for solving all manner of glitches such as this one.

Given the prevalence of the problem, one can hope (!) that MS are aware of it and might even produce a fix.

When I open Settings it opens and then closes almost immediately.

A few questions and things to try:

Open the Task Manager. Open Settings. Does the Settings appear in the Task Manager on the Processes tab under Apps? If not, look at the Background processes and see if Settings is listed there.

Open a Run box, enter ms-settings: and press the Enter key. Does the main Settings window stay open now? If it does stay open look in Task manager and see if it is listed under Apps.

Open a Run box, enter ms-settings:display and press the Enter key. Does this specific settings page open and stay open? If it does stay open look in Task manager and see if it is listed under Apps.

Close any browser and mail app that is open. Now try opening the Settings. If it does stay open look in Task manager and see if it is listed under Apps.

Let me know what you find out.

      HTH, Dana:))

      Good day.
Although this “Settings” problem was marked as resolved it has
become a problem again. Cannot open “Settings” again.
      Thanks
