I have a new Dell XPS system with Win11 Pro 23H2.  The printer is an Epson WF-3540.  I have downloaded and installed the latest print driver.  I have confirmed with Epson tech support that I have the correct driver, and that it is installed correctly.  One user account has no access to Automatic Duplex printing, and can access only Manual Duplex printing.  Other accounts, both admin and user, DO have access to Automatic Duplex printing.  I have contacted both Epson and Microsoft tech support in an attempt to determine how to repair the account that can access only Manual Duplex printing.  Neither tech support group was able to determine the cause, or to suggest a fix.  Apparently each account can have its own set of allowed features, but it is not clear how these can be configured, or where these settings reside. Exploring the registry, I found an entry “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\EPSON WF-3540 Series\DsDriver\printDuplexSupported” which was set to 0 for the account in question, but was set to 1 in the accounts where Automatic Duplex was supported.  I tried revising this key’s value from 0 to 1, but that change did not fix the problem.  I discovered that if I start an application with admin privileges in the user account which has this problem, then the application is then able to print with automatic duplex, but that is not really the most desirable workaround.  I’m open to suggestion as to how to repair the account so that it it can directly access the printer’s automatic duplex functionality.

I set those things in the printer driver.

      Settings > Bluetooth and Devices.
Select the printer and go to Printer Properties  Advanced > Printing Defaults.
Set “Print on bot sides” to whatever you need – I have “flip on long edge”.

      cheers, Paul

In the account with the problem, the Duplex printing option is available in the area you indicated, but the Auto option is not.  In the other accounts (without the problem), the Auto option appears directly under the Duplex option.

Mine doesn’t have “automatic” either. I set the default to “flip on long edge”.

          cheers, Paul
