In have Win 7 on C Drive, Win 8 CP on W Drive and Data folders all on the D Drive. I also have downloaded installation exe files in the Download folder on the D Drive. Today I have been working from Win 8 CP totally. My Quicken app installation file was on the D Drive. I pointed to it and installed Quicken to the Win 8 CP (worked very well) and pointed to the data file on the D Drive. Now whether I’m on the Win 7 or Win 8 CP partition, my data file is always up to date because it’s on the D Drive and I point to it from each OS. So Cool!

I just set my WLM on Win 8 CP (File, Options, Mail, Advanced, Maintenance, Store Folder) and pointed to the same folder as my Win 7 WLM again on the Data Drive. Guess what, all my folders on Win 8 CP are synced with Win 7 because they are the same folders. When I make a change or save a mail in Win 8 CP it is also saved in Win 7. So Cool!

So far this is getting more fun as I go along.

      Ted,

Yep, that’s why I set all my machines up with a separate data partition { I use G: to get it out of the way of the CD/DVD drives} and then put all my data there including moving the Outlook.pst file over there. It also makes it easier to hit the road with my laptop, I just use SyncToy to sync the data partitions on laptop/desktop and off I go then do it again when I return. IMHO it’s the only way to go!

I boot one of XP, Vista or W7 using Easy BCD, and do the same as RetiredGeek. I have seperate partitions/hard drives on which are the data files for Outlook, Roboform, Clipmate and several other progs.

Accessing them on any of the operating systems gives me exactly the same data, ie true interchangeability.

The only slight downside is that I get recycle bins for each system on all partitions, which worries me slightly, but hasn’t caused a problem so far.
Also, I don’t use system restore, if I did I expect there could be interaction problems, particularly because XP doesn’t include it.

PS, I also agree with Ted, it all adds to the enjoyment, you just have to forget those moments of despair when things don’t work

I forgot to mention, there is a downside!

When MS updates are out I have to go through the process seperately for each OS, and virus prog updates are similarly a chore.

Unless anyone knows how to store MSE virus files so they can be accessed on a seperate partition.
