I have a user who occasionally reports the following problem. Her Horizontal scroll bar in Excel starts flashing (blinking). She is an experienced user, I really hesitate to say that it is a user problem. This occurs at different times of the day, in different workbooks. She states that it does not affect anything she is working on, it just blinks. I have tried and tried but I cannot find a reason. Has anyone ever seen this happen?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 24, 2001 at 5:43 pm #1776855I’ve seen something like your description in other office apps – powerpoint in particular. I believe it was connected to having a mouse with a wheel. It may be worth searching the other forums? FYI, my way of solving the problem was to change jobs and hence PC setup/ini files/registry settings or whatever was causing it – This seemed to work, if a bit drastic! Sorry I can’t be of more help.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 10, 2001 at 2:46 am #1789010I’m gonna go with the other two as well. I find myself clicking too hard on the wheel. This puts the mouse in a different mode. Though I could not repeat the behavior tonight, I have seen some odd behavior with it in other programs, particularly an in-house Access-based program at work.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 10, 2001 at 3:28 am #1789012there is definately something about the scroll bars and wheel mice. I’ve seen it again since my first post in this thread, but I can’t isolate it. i think it’s a 95/97 thing. And I’m currently undergoing a crash course in 2k/2k so hopefully I’ll never see it again. Oh yes, that smug posting about being totally backed up. Well, I was at home. Shame it was the works laptop that went down.
But there have been a number of posts recently about problems with wheel mice drivers. Must be something in the air.
