Suggestion: Link to the latest update advice topic within page https://www.askwoody.com/ms-defcon-system/. Reason: Several posters have mentioned that finding this information is difficult. Example: latest update advice topic is https://www.askwoody.com/2017/ms-defcon-3-time-to-get-windows-and-office-patched-but-watch-out-for-these-buggy-critters/.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

GuestApril 1, 2017 at 9:08 am #105851Glad you liked my suggestion :). I have what I think is an even better suggestion.
Modified suggestion: For MS-DEFCOM 3, MS-DEFCOM 4, and MS-DEFCOM 5, in the corresponding banner text (when any of those statuses are present) the word “patch” should be a hyperlink to a page called “Woody’s Latest Patch Advice.” The “Woody’s Latest Patch Advice” page would have a link to Woody’s latest patch advice topic. This should make it easy for people to find your latest patch advice when the time is right!
Example: Right now I see this on the home page banner: “MS-DEFCON 3: Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems.” I’m suggesting that the word “patch” in the banner text “Go ahead and patch” should be changed to a hyperlink that links to Woody’s Latest Patch Advice page, which in turn contains a link to Woody’s latest patch advice topic.
Before changing from either MS-DEFCOM 1 or MS-DEFCOM 2, to any of MS-DEFCOM 3, MS-DEFCOM 4, and MS-DEFCOM 5, Woody would make sure to first update the link in Woody’s Latest Patch Advice page before changing the MS-DEFCOM status.

GuestApril 1, 2017 at 9:24 am #105865Also, Woody could write the update instructions immediately after Microsoft’s patches are released. This would serve two purposes:
1. Woody’s latest patch instructions are available to those who don’t use the MS-DEFCOM system, but still want Woody’s patch instructions.
2. Woody’s latest patch instructions get beta tested by early adopters, before MS-DEFCOM status is changed to MS-DEFCOM 3, MS-DEFCOM 4, or MS-DEFCOM 5.

AskWoody LoungerApril 1, 2017 at 11:53 am #105897With reference to using “anonymous” as the poster’s name, it would be so much easier it each “anonymous” poster had “something” to identify him/her specifically, such as “anonymous-1”, “anonymous-2”, etc. It’s impossible for others to know WHICH “anonymous” is posting a remark. Anyone else having this problem??
