I get the following error with Windows 98 starts up and at odd times when it is running. I just installed 98 on this machine, over 95. — Any ideas?

I have an idea. It sounds very much like the old Power Toy “Target Context Menu” was installed and has been disabled or otherwise hosed.

You can re-install the Power Toys, or you can remove them if the option is still there. Also, you can go into MSCONFIG and disable the “TweakMeUp” entry that is listed under startup items. This entry shows up after adding the Power Toys.

Mark, thanks for your suggestions. I found this in the Microsoft Knowledgebase after submitting my question.

I did have a version of TweakUI installed that appears to be for Windows 95 and not 98. The resolution they
listed did not work – the uninstall failed because of problems with the target.dll file. I was, however, able to use the work around and remove the offending programs from the startup folder.

I will try your msconfig suggestion too.

        Thanks,
        Mike

Excellent! The important thing is that you were able to work around the issue….despite the support for the non-supported TweakUI. grin
