• Tips on using Password Safe

Folowing on from the recommendation of Password Safe a few weeks ago, I have decided to try it out (partially driven by a change of ISP, which means changing numerous registered e-mail addresses). While the help I have found appears to cover how to use it once the userid and password are already stored in its database, I haven’t found any advice on how to store them. Do I just have to copy the details in manually (or via copy / paste), which is what I’ve started to do, or is there a slicker way of doing it?

Also how do you capture the (presumably sign in) url, especially when the sign in screen is usually different from the password change and set up a new account screens?

    Thanks

(For awareness, I now have a gmail account which I will redirect most mail to, and hopefully I can retain that for ever ….)

I like Password Safe, and used it for years, but I have moved to KeePass recently, and love it.
(I know this doesn’t answer your question, but thought you might be interested. You can import and export data data in a variety of formats. Find it here.)

I’ve found that Roboform is a superior product.

I too found Roboform superior to all others. It saved my bacon more than once, thanks to the regular backups of its files.

      Hi Peter,

I’ve been using Password Safe for about 3 months now and I like it. You can store your standard userid (presumably your email address) in Manage / Options, then select the Misc tab and enter it in the Default Username field and check the Use checkbox. This user name will then appear automatically in all new entries you create. It does not do the same for passwords for good reason I think.

If you Edit an Entry there is a field for the URL – just paste the URL for the sign in screen into there. When that is populated you get a Browse to URL icon which when clicked will open a new browser tab and go to that URL.

      Hope that helps.
